Fasting and Prayer for Estonia
Estonia continues to need our prayers! We invite you to persevere in the fight of faith for Estonia! Also, to keep our hearts pure and to be ready to follow God’s next calls in each of our lives.
Exactly 6 months before that, on August 21, 2022, we gathered in Tallinn Methodist Church for prayer and repentance when we received the word “Estonia is on the scales”. We repented of replacement theology, blessed Israel – the apple of God’s eye, and repented of underestimating God’s love! But now there was a new word: “Days of fasting and prayer for Estonia!“
It is noteworthy that the Bible says in Romans 1:16: “I am not ashamed of the gospel (good news), for it is the power of God for salvation (deliverance) to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek…” to Estonian (to gentiles).

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name!
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread!
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors!
And do not lead us into temptation,
but deliver us from evil!
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Amen.

Fasting
Why fast at all?
- Fasting is a spiritual self-discipline practiced in both the Old and New Testaments. It has always been followed by life or history changing miracles, power and grace from God.
- Fasting is a biblical way to deeply humble ourselves before God. King David said, “I humbled my soul with fasting” (Psalm 35:13, see Ezra 8:21).
- Fasting can change the fate of nations (Book of Jonah, King Ahab, etc.).
- Fasting allows the Holy Spirit to reveal our true spiritual condition, resulting in brokenness, repentance, and a changed life.
- Fasting helps to focus on God. This is one important key to hearing God’s voice.
- Fasting helps remove unbelief. Your trust and faith in God will be strengthened. You feel refreshed mentally and physically.
- Fasting is for spiritual growth, preparation for ministry, equipping, gaining wisdom, seeking guidance from God, seeking spiritual breakthroughs, resisting temptation, devotion to God, expression of love, prayer and worship.
- Fasting is a weapon against demonic forces.
- Fasting can also be ministering to others. Through fasting, we can ask God for breakthroughs and changes in other people’s lives.
What a heaven-shaking power is in fasting, called into existence by God, where His servants fast with one accord with broken hearts for their country and people! Be prepared that God can change you mightily!
How to fast?
The main idea of fasting is to focus on God and seek Him. Fasting can be thought of as tuning in, where you turn your gaze away from the usual sources of noise in life. It is replaced by a time of prayer, worship, reading the Bible, being in silence.
Some suggestions for Lent:
– Set yourself up to fast:
- First, think clearly why you are going to fast. It will get you through.
- According to the way of fasting, make the necessary preparations, e.g. unplug the TV and hide the remote control, prepare clothes suitable for the weather to go for a walk, plan the amount of food so that nothing spoils on fasting days, etc.
– Take more time for God
– Avoid physical overload
– Go for a walk, be in the middle of nature
– Read the Bible or listen to the audio Bible
Guidelines for fasting from food
There are different ways of fasting from food:
- Water fast – consuming only water.
- Daniel’s fast – eating only fruits and/or vegetables
- Juice fast – consumption of only water and freshly squeezed juice (store-bought or homemade)
- Full fasting – not eating or drinking anything (this fasting can be done for a maximum of 3 days while observing your body)
Before fasting, do not eat a full stomach of heavily fried foods, flour, sugar or meat products. If the carnal nature tells you to eat as much as you can before you start fasting, this behavior actually makes fasting more difficult. The stomach distends, the feeling of an empty stomach is greater, and the next day headaches, nausea and weakness may occur.
Recommended foods before fasting:
- fruits
- vegetables
- seeds and nuts
- berries
- legumes
- plant-based milk replacers
- herbs
*If you still want to eat some meat before fasting, it is recommended to eat an egg (best boiled) or fish.
When coming out of fasting, it is not recommended to eat a large steak or heavy meat. In the case of a short fast (1-3 days), it is recommended to eat a little unflavored yogurt, kefir, stewed vegetables, mashed soup at the beginning.
Prov 11:24 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; and there is one who withholds more than is right, ut it leads to poverty.
